Classification and application areas of tapered roller bearings

Tapered Roller Bearing

Tapered roller bearings are classified in many different ways according to different classification standards and application areas.

Below are some common classifications of tapered roller bearings and their application areas:

Classification According to Structure

Single Row Tapered Roller Bearings: These bearings have only one inner ring and one outer ring and are suitable for many general engineering applications such as automobiles, trucks, and agricultural machinery.

Double Row Tapered Roller Bearings: These bearings have two inner rings and a shared outer ring, and are suitable for applications that require higher loads and higher stiffness, such as construction machinery and bearing boxes.

Classification According to Roller Shape

Conventional Tapered Roller Bearings: Bearings with standard tapered rollers for a wide range of applications including automobiles, agricultural equipment and more.

Tapered Needle Roller Bearings: Bearings with tapered needle rollers are suitable for applications which require high axial load capacity, such as certain construction machinery.

Classification According to Angle

Standard Tapered Roller Bearings: The contact angle of the rollers is usually about 20 degrees for general purposes.

Large Angle Tapered Roller Bearings: Rollers with a large contact angle, typically about 30 degrees, for applications requiring higher stiffness and holding capacity, such as rear axles on trucks.

Applications

Automotive Industry: Tapered roller bearings are widely used in automotive transmission system, such as differentials, hub devices and transmissions.

Construction Machinery: Tapered roller bearings are used in excavators, loaders, bulldozers and other construction machinery to withstand high loads and vibrations.

Aerospace: High-performance bearings are used in the aerospace sector to support the various moving parts of aircraft and spacecraft.

Railroad Transportation: Tapered roller bearings are also used in train wheels and train transmission systems.

Agricultural Machinery: Agricultural machinery and equipment, such as tractors and harvesters, tapered roller bearings are used to support various rotating parts.

These are some of the common classifications and applications of tapered roller bearings. The specific application and requirements will determine which type of tapered roller bearing to choose and its specifications.
