Tapered Roller Bearings Selection and Size Standards

Tapered Roller Bearing

Selection and sizing standards for tapered roller bearings are very important to ensure that the bearings will function properly and meet the required performance requirements for a particular application.

Below is some basic information on tapered roller bearing selection and size standards:

Factors Need to Be Considered When Selecting

Load Type and Size: Determine the required radial and axial loads to select the appropriate bearing.

Bearing Speed: Determine the range of rotational speeds the bearing have to withstand in order to select the proper bearing type and size.

Precision Requirements: Select the appropriate precision grade of bearings according to the precision requirements of the application.

Operating Temperature: Determines the performance of the bearing over the temperature range during the operation.

Mounting and Maintenance Conditions: Consider the mounting and maintenance requirements of the bearings to ensure long-term stable operation.

Size Standards

ISO Standards: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued several standards for tapered roller bearings, including bearing dimensions, tolerances, accuracy, etc. ISO 355 is a general dimensional standard for tapered roller bearings that defines different types and sizes of bearings.

ANSI Standards: The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) also publishes standards for tapered roller bearings, such as ANSI/ABMA 19.2. These standards are usually compatible with ISO standards.

DIN Standard: German Industrial Standard (DIN) has also formulated some standards related to tapered roller bearings.

Basic Dimensional Parameters

ID: Diameter of the inner ring of the bearing.

OD: Diameter of the outer ring of the bearing.

Width: The width of the bearing, usually measured as the distance between the inner and outer rings.

Static Load Rating: The maximum load carrying capacity of bearings under static load

Dynamic Load Rating: The maximum load capacity of the bearing under dynamic load.

Contact Angle: The contact angle between the roller and the inner and outer rings, usually 20 degrees or 30 degrees, different angles affect the load carrying capacity and speed characteristics.

When selecting tapered roller bearings, you need to understand the requirements of the application in detail, and then refer to the relevant standards and manufacturer's catalogs to select the right bearing type, size and accuracy class. Correct selection will help ensure that the bearings exhibit excellent performance and reliability in the application.
